Meditation
Since I basically never post and, with a couple of exceptions, just seem to be using this as a RSS feed for my web comics, I am turning off my account here. It won't actually die until my current year runs out in October, but I won't be checking any more. Feel free to keep in touch via email or Facebook. Thank you for the past decade to anyone who is still listening.

WARNING: Contains theology

Meditation
I have always considered, when the Bible says that God created the world, that He created all space and time. And therefore He exists outside of both. I think that His name reflects this as does Jesus' statement of 'Before Moses was, I am.' Depsite standing there talking to the Jews, He also exists before Moses was around at the same instance.

What struck me today was that, when we do what we know is wrong, Jesus is not only with us at that moment, but He is also on the cross with nails in His hands dying for our sins. He isn't dying for some sin we might be committing in the future. All moments are really NOW for Him. He is up there dying for our acts as they are occurring. Dying knowing what we are doing, as we are doing. Dying in spite of all that.

So when He says, 'Father, forgive them. They know not what they do.', He is not just necessarily talking about the crowd mocking Him at His feet...

Sick of Divorce

Meditation
I wish they would just change the vows from 'death do us part' to 'as long as it isn't inconvenient'. Might as well be up front about it all.

I do not believe in love at first sight, though I do believe in lust at first sight.

I don't care how old fashion it sounds, there is a reason for courtship taking a year or two.

Asians Are Special

Meditation
We were just doing the 2010 Census. Interesting detail about race (ignoring the Hispanic mess): If you are Black or White, just check your box and move on. But if you are Asian, are you Chinese? Japanese? Cambodian? Fiji, maybe? Why they need to know what area the Asians come from?

Or from another direction, don't they care that I am of German descent? Is it because Europeans are so mixed together that nobody cares? And the same for Africans. (Oh, note that this groups together the blacks whose families have been here since the slave trade to the ones recently immigrated from West Africa). Presumably, following this logic, Asians tend to stay racially pure?

Oh, apparently the government agrees with the model that American Indians came over from Asian since that is the other group that they wanted specifics about.

Dealing with Borders Digital Audio Books

Meditation
My father asked for MP3 books for Christmas. After much searching, I finally found a site I thought I could trust that would let me download some MP3s. After I had selected and purchased the books and got to the download page, you bother to mention that I need special software to use this MP3 file. Special software for MP3s? This reeks of a scam, which is not what I would expect of Borders. What is going on here and how can you make it right? And why do I need a special account rather than my usual Borders one? Not happy with what should have been a simple task.

Gory details...Collapse )

I'm signing up for a corporate AMEX card. They want a password. The description follows and, mind you, this includes a 4-level strength meter, so you know when it is a good one:

Make your Password easy to remember but hard to guess. It should be different than your User ID and contain:

* 6 to 8 characters
* At least one letter and one number (not case sensitive)
* No spaces or special characters (e.g., &, >, *, $, @)

Oh, and on a side note, I debated whether to post this here or Facebook. Look through the recent posts on my Friend's Page, the only people who still post here are the geekier of my friends. Of course, those are also the ones who would really appreciate this.

Our friends at Wizards

Straw Gutter
Just got this email from Paizo:

----------------------------------------------
Wizards of the Coast has notified us that we may no longer sell or distribute their PDF products. Accordingly, after April 6 at 11:59 PM Pacific time, Wizards of the Coast PDFs will no longer be available for purchase on paizo.com; after noon on April 7, you will no longer be able to download Wizards of the Coast PDFs that you have already purchased, so please make sure you have downloaded all purchased PDFs by that time.

We thank you for your patronage of paizo.com. Please check out our other downloads at paizo.com/store/downloads.
----------------------------------------------

And, considering the email was sent out at 3am eastern, I'm guessing that WotC also stipulated that they couldn't tell anyone until it was to late to buy a bunch of new PDFs.

A few days ago after Liddy was called up before Congress, I thought about delurking and doing a quick rant about the absurdity of beating up Liddy. Of course, by the time I actually had spare time at home to do it, I had moved to the 'why bother' phase. Catching up on the last comics shows that xkcd has my back at least on one of the points.

Cool! I just noticed that Studio Foglio has WHAT'S NEW with Phil & Dixie online now! They're doing regular posts just like for Genius Girl. Um, wait, since January 2007? Why didn't someone else mention this to me earlier?!?!?

Ok, so having a police light in your car if you are not a LEO is probably illegal. But what about a laser pointer that alternates between red and blue light? If you had a slow car ahead of you blocking the fast lane, you could aim it for a second at its rear view mirror. The driver would have a brief impression the light, panic and get over, then would try to figure out where the light came from while you breeze by.
